Summer Reading Kick Off Event was a Success!

We had a magical evening at the Summer Reading Kick Off Event with our special guest, Mr. Tommy James.  We learned about the magic of reading and saw some AMAZING magic tricks.  The magician made the Velveteen Rabbit turn into a real bunny, made flowers appear from thin air to create our own Secret Garden, and Charlotte the spider from Charlotte's Web spun a very special message for the audience: READ!

Children can sign up for the 2012 Summer Reading programs at the Children's Reference Desk.  This week we are having our annual 4th of July celebration.  If you have any questions about the Summer Reading programs, please don't hesitate to call or ask for us in the Youth Services Department.

A Very Busy Week!

We sure have had a very busy week here in the Children's Department (and it's not done yet - we still have storytime tomorrow morning at 10 AM!)

On Thursday the library participated in the state's "Library Snapshot Day."  As part of the event we offered a drop-in craft where kids decorated their own picture frames.

On Friday we had our last session of Library Club.  This session featured puppeteer Sparky Davis who not only treated us to some wonderful and funny puppet shows but we got to make our own popsicle stick puppets.

We had a terrific time at today's "Community Helpers" storytime.  We want to especially thank the dental hygiene students from Middlesex Community College for their wonderful presentation.  In addition to showing us how to brush and floss they also told us about the MCC Dental Hygiene Clinic.  Unfortunately they didn't have any cards with the clinic's address but did give me that information:

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Our Irish {and "Not-So-Irish";)}eyes were certainly smiling today when we were serenaded by St. Patrick's Day carolers from St. Patrick School.  Library staff was treated to "Molly Malone," "McNamara's Band," and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling."  The students did a wonderful job and they made our day.  We also give special thanks to teachers Ms. Miskell and Mrs. Najarian for bringing their students to the library.
